2016 Resolutions

Last year, I made 5 resolutions for this year. It’s time to revisit and see how I did before making some new resolutions for the coming 2016.

2015 Resolutions:

1. Pin more: CHECK. I reorganized my boards and made pretty covers. I don’t have any schedule to when I pin, but it’s fun to do when I remember. I’ve been better about making sure to pin my blog posts/products, so I can easily find them.

2. Take more CEU courses: CHECK. I signed up for www.speechpathology.com and too several courses over the past year. I think I need to renew my membership though.

3. Create more materials for my students: CHECK. New students have been added and I am constantly jotting down ideas for activities. I really love creating resources and then seeing how they work with my students.

4. Blog more often: CHECK. I aim to post about twice a week, plus my Peek At My Week posts each Sunday. I don’t always hit that goal, but I have tried to share easy ideas and other fun things with you this year. My favorite post recently has been what speech therapy is to me.

5. Be ok with “just ok” therapy sometimes: WORKING ON IT. This one still eludes me sometimes. Personally, my life has changed a lot in the past year and will continue to change into next year, so priorities have shifted a bit. Sometimes that means I’m just not on my therapy game. But the kids still work on their goals, and that’s all that matters. So I have to keep working on this one.

So NOW onto my 2016 resolutions:

 1. Do more play based therapy: I’ve written before how this is one of my weaknesses. I tend to gravitate more towards drill based therapy for a variety of reasons, but I sometimes forget that play based therapy can be just as effective. I have some activities in the works to help me do just this!

2. Learn more about AAC: My grad school class didn’t really help me know where to start for therapy when it comes to AAC devices. I have a couple friends with devices and am learning Words for Life and the principles of core vocabulary. I love the Language Lab website because it gives easy lessons to incorporate into therapy. I might even do a series of blog posts about AAC as I learn.

3. Continue to strive for work/life balance: In the coming year, I see my priorities shifting a little on the personal side. I really want to work hard to create the work/life balance so that I can be fully present in both settings.

These are MY goals for 2016…what are yours?
