Quick Therapy Ideas

I’ve survived the first few weeks of school! It’s always a huge accomplishment, haha. I thought I’d pop in and share my best quick therapy ideas. Ones that don’t involve prep and are easy-peasy. Here they are:

-Drawing: I’ve done this with a snowman before (blog post here), but you can do it with anything. After the students take turns, you demonstrate how to draw another part. It kept my kids engaged for the whole session and you only need paper and crayons/markers.

-Points: Write each student’s name on a piece of paper and give them points after they answer a question. There’s something about points that is so motivating!!

-Bingo chips/mini erasers: Give each student bingo chips or mini erasers after they answer a question. Similar to points, there’s something about earning these that really motivates the kids.

-Books: I’m known to just pull a book off my shelf and use it. You don’t have to have fancy companions (though they are nice) or anything. Using books is a great way to target WH questions, retelling, sequencing, grammar, and so much more.

-Get up and move: Do therapy standing up or sitting on the floor. Moving around is important for little bodies, and can help improve your students’ attention. After you work on some articulation or language, do some jumping jacks or hops. I’ve had kids do jumping jacks in the middle of the session if I notice their attention is not what it should be.

I hope I’ve given you some ideas to use the next time you’re stumped!
