{App Review} Pronouns by Teach Speech Apps
Pronouns is an app by Teach Speech and is available in the app store for $2.99 I was recently given the opportunity to review this app and was delighted to do so.
There are four different activities in this app: identify the pronoun from the picture shown, identify the picture that demonstrates the pronoun, drag and drop the item to the correct person/people, and identify the pronoun for the sentence. This is what the home screen looks like:
This is what the first activity looks like. Students simply touch the correct pronoun. While this might seem simple, a lot of my students tend to always use “he” or “she,” so this does a nice job of isolating this skill.
The second activity involves matching a sentence to one of the two pictures. You touch the sentence to hear it and then the student touches the correct picture. I love that they have to really pay attention because both people are doing the same thing, so you get practice listening for the correct pronoun.
The third activity involves giving an item to the correct person/people. In the sample below, the student drags the shoe to the woman. My students loved the interactive portion to this activity.
The fourth activity is good for readers. Students have to select the correct pronoun to complete the sentence.
What I Liked:
-clean, non-distracting format
-4 different activities that really focus on the pronouns
-kept my students’ attention well
What I Would Love To See:
-I wouldn’t change anything about this app. There isn’t a game or reinforcer, so if that’s something that is important to you or your students, it’s something you might want to consider before purchasing. For most of my students, just using the iPad is a treat in itself, so that wasn’t an issue.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this app! It allows you to practice pronouns in a predictable, yet engaging manner!
