Clinical Skills Confidence: Finding Materials for Less Common Goals

How many times do you get a new student or write a goal and it’s not a “typical” goal? I’ve had this happen a handful of times. So how do I go about finding materials to target these goals?

First, I’ll look at my ridiculous copious amounts of therapy materials I already have. Still come up empty handed? The search is on!

Second, I go to Teachers Pay Teachers. Why? Because there are tons of SLPs now selling their materials and usually one or two of them has something I can use. Or a teacher does.

Third, I search google or Pinterest. Inevitably, I can usually find some worksheets or an activity that I can adapt to fit my needs.

Fourth, if all else fails I’ll make something myself. I will usually end up putting it in my store, on the off chance that someone else can use it too. I had one student working on reflexive pronouns a couple years ago, and ending up making an activity for just that.

Fifth, I’ll ask my fellow SLPs for advice! I love the online SLP community and often someone can offer different perspective on how to tackle it.
