End of Year Organization

Another school year is almost done. That means packing up my materials and organizing myself so that I’m ready come the fall. How do I prepare? I’m going to tell you!
First, I take all the games and stuff off my shelf and put them in big plastic totes that I stack up next to my file cabinet. I use this time to decide what games I never really use and I try to sell them so I can buy different ones. Some games just don’t end up working well!
Next, I make extra copies of logs for the students who I know will be returning next year to store in my data binder.
I have a file with all my logs on my computer, separated by grade. I change all the grade levels for the coming year.
The top shelf in my file cabinet is working files. I go through each file and make sure I have a copy of the current IEP, the logs from this year, and any working samples, evaluations, etc. I separate them out by grade level, so I’ll move up the folders to the next grade.
We are required to keep working files for 3 years, so I shred the ones that are from longer than that. I also use this time to straighten up my protocols, organize testing materials, etc.
I update my goal spreadsheet (read more about that here) for the coming year by deleting out transitioning students and adding in any students who I know will be entering for the coming year. This goal spreadsheet is great because I can look at all my students’ goals and information in one place. It takes a little updating during the year, but that’s it.
How do you organize yourself at the end of the year?
