Jan Brett Books in Speech Therapy
I love, love, love books by Jan Brett. I think I own just about every book she has written and illustrated. My mom started my collection and adds to it every time she releases a new book.

Her books are a GOLD MINE for therapy. Not only does she have beautiful illustrations, she usually has additional illustrations in the margins of the book, which lend themselves nicely to making inferences about what could happen next. See below for what I’m talking about in The Mitten. She gives you a clue as to what animal is coming next.
Below are my absolute favorite books to use in therapy
1. The Mitten: You can use this for sequencing, WH questions, inferences, and more!
2. The Hat: This one is a funny book that you can use for clothing, describing, sequencing, WH questions, and inferences.
3. The Three Snow Bears: This is a twist on Goldilocks and The Three Bears, so you can use it to compare and contrast the two stories, WH questions, retell, etc.
4. Town Mouse, Country Mouse: This one is another one you can use for comparing and contrasting, WH questions, retell, etc.
5. The Mother’s Day Mice: This one is a really cute story to use around Mother’s Day.
6. Hedgie’s Surprise: This one is a great story that involves problem solving, inferring, and more.
7. Comet’s Nine Lives: Comet is a cat who loses 8 of his 9 lives. It’s great for sequencing, WH questions, and inferences.
There are many more books that I typically use, but these are my all time favorite! Do you use Jan Brett books in your therapy room?
