‘Twas The Week Before Break
For your enjoyment! 🙂
‘Twas the week before break, when all through the school
Not a child was focused, but hey, that’s cool.
The SLPs (and teachers) wanted to give out candy – do they dare?
In hopes that 3:45 soon would be there.
The children were thinking about toys in their heads,
While the SLPs (and teachers) longed for their beds,
And the principal in her office, and I with paperwork in my lap,
Had just settled in my kiddie chair for Medicaid billing…errr a nap.
When out in the parking lot arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my kiddie chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the double doors I flew with my “SLP (Teacher) of the Year” sash,
Tore open the door, I ran in a mad dash.
A school bus laden with bags ‘o laminating sheets- you know,
Gave the luster of laminated sheets to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a big, fat year end bonus check for each of us – what? Here?!?!
With an lively little elf, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment I must be sick,
More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came,
And the elf danced and shouted and called by name,
Oh Common Core, oh state tests,
On those evaluations, during observations,
Your scores are the best,
Now just teach and do therapy – that’s your call,
It’s what you truly love,
Dash away, dash away, dash away all!
And then in a twinkling, I heard on the school roof,
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof,
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Down from the school bus St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to us,
And filled our arms with supplies and cash for materials, he made such a fuss!
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, back onto the school bus he rose.
He sprang up the emergency bus exit, to the driver gave a whistle,
And away they drove, like the down of a thistle,
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“You’re such good SLPs (teachers); have a stress-free night!”
Love it!
