Writing & Speech
Writing and speech? Yes! Writing is within our scope of practice according to ASHA. I don’t always focus on writing skills with my students, but lately I’ve been doing it more. Especially with my older kids. Why? Because it’s a good way to help carryover skills from the speech room into the classroom. How have I been doing this?
Several of my products have some kind of writing component. It’s a good way to see how your students are spelling words and look at their problem solving skills. Lately, these are some of the items I’ve used to incorporate writing into speech:
I used these synonym/antonym activity around Valentine’s Day. Kids wrote in the synonym or antonym.
This is a new product in my store called Complete Sentence Comics. Students have to decide which person produced a complete sentence and which person produced an incomplete sentence. Then they need to fix the incomplete sentence by writing a complete sentence on the lines provided.
On most of my crafts, I have my students write their own target words (works for language or artic). Students take pride in their work!My Leveled Adjective Flipbook has been GREAT for helping my students write sentences with adjectives.
How do you incorporate writing into your speech sessions?
