2017 Reflections + 2018 Goals

Every year, I do a post recapping my resolutions and making new ones. This year’s post is here. Now it’s time for my 2017 reflections and my 2018 goals!

First, let’s look at how I did with my 2017 goals:

  1. Pay off my student loans. DONE!! This was a major accomplishment for me and I have all of you to thank because if it weren’t for people purchasing my TPT activities, this wouldn’t have happened.
  2. Learn more about speech therapy for cleft palate. I have one little friend who I am sort of stumped with and I need to do some more research to figure out how best to get better bilabial sounds out of him. It’s an area that grad school didn’t really provide too much information on. ONGOING. I’ve done some cleft palate continuing education courses and spoken to a couple SLPs who are more versed in this.
  3. Take some “me” time. I think all moms struggle with this, but I really want to try to do this and not feel guilty about it. ONGOING. I have been doing this a little more now that my daughter is a bit older, but it’s still hard.
  4. Try really hard to make it to ASHA this year. Not sure that will happen with it being on the west coast this year, but I’m going to do my best to accomplish this. DID NOT ACCOMPLISH. Hoping to make it to either ASHA Connect or the big ASHA this year.
  5. Make memories with my family. My daughter is growing so fast that it’s crazy! ONGOING. We’ve had lots of fun this year and I hope to make some new memories this year.

This past year, I’ve settled into being a full time working mom a little more. It’s been a little easier to balance everything. I’m still leaving my laptop at work during the week and only bringing it home on the weekends when I absolutely have to. Being organized and using every free minute at work means that I have to do less at home. Like I said last year, my therapy may not have all the bells and whistles, but I’m still hitting therapy goals and that’s all that matters to me. My students haven’t seemed to notice the difference.

So now onto my 2018 goals:

  1. Make it to at least one ASHA, either the schools or the one in November.
  2. My husband and I would really like to buy a home, so we’ll be working on this one.
  3. Do more evidenced based practice research.
  4. Make some more “me” time.
  5. Make memories with my family.

What are your 2018 goals? How did your 2017 go?
