I have had experience working with middle school students in two other states. Currently I’m in a school with PS-6th. I do know some middle schools start with 6th grade. While most of my activities are gearedtowards younger students, some of them can definitely be used with the middle school crowd! I thought I’d share with you what those are! I do understand that at this age, cutesy clip art is just not going to cut it anymore.

Secret Messages for Main Idea: Read the stories and decide on the main idea to reveal a secret message.

Don’t Say It Describing Dash: This can be a high level language game, because the students need to think about the words that they CAN’T use. You can make it more challenging by reminding the students not to use #1 and #2.

Verbitions: On top of being no print, this will allow your students to become newscasters! Report the story, but fix the irregular past tense verbs. Students can even check their answers.

Complex Emotion Crackers: These self correct crackers will help your students learn and remember higher level emotions.

Articulation Postcards: Work on articulation AND writing skills! Your students will practice writing postcards.

 Your middle school students will be working on their speech/language goals, while having fun at the same time!
