My Love/Hate Relationship With Social Media
Facebook. Instagram. Twitter. Periscope. What do these all have in common?
They’re social media platforms.
Social media is a HUGE part of our lives now. It’s everywhere and virtually impossible to escape. I truly love social media for a lot of reasons. I love that it allows me to connect with friends and family who don’t live near me. I love that it allows me to connect with other SLPs from around the country. I love that it allows me to run this blog and my TpT store. I love that it lets me connect with other fabulous SLP bloggers. I love that it keeps me up to date on events in the world. The vast majority of the time, I love it.
Now onto the reasons why I hate it. Hate is a strong word. So let’s just say “I don’t like” instead. I don’t like that I feel the need to constantly be connected. I don’t like that I sometimes can’t have a face to face conversation with anyone because they’re constantly checking their phone. I don’t like how it can make you compare yourself to other people, and sometimes this ends with me not feeling great.
Lately, with some big changes in my personal life, I’ve had to re-prioritze. Now I don’t have as much free time as I did before. When I do, I find myself not reaching for my laptop as much. Instead I sometimes choose to just sit or do something else that doesn’t involve social media.
What’s the takeaway message from this post? I love and hate social media for all the things it brings to my life. Use it when you want to be connected, but be ok with walking away when you need a break.
What are your feelings on social media?
