SLP Self Care
In the midst of a pandemic, rampant racism, and the regular stressors in life, self care has never been more important than right now. We are in the caring profession and often times we care more about other people than we do ourselves. I’ve had to get more creative about self care since we can’t just run out and do normal things right now.
Some things that I’m doing for self care include:
-Naps: I take naps sometimes on weekends when my daughter naps. After a busy week, I need the extra time to rest and recharge.
-Exercise: I make it a point to exercise almost every day. It’s my “me” time and I can release whatever pent up emotions I’m feeling, plus it just feels good to me to sweat.
-Nostalgia: Over the summer, I found my video from when I was Liat in South Pacific at a local theatre 15 years ago and had a great time showing my daughter the video. I’ve also been looking through old pictures and remembering times past. Sometimes it’s nice to get lost in memories.
-Get outside: We’ve been making it a point to get outside when the weather is nice and the Vitamin D really helps.
-Reading: I love to read and this helps me to get lost in a different world.
-Music: I’ve been listening to an assortment of music (some throwback, some not) and music always helps put me in a better mood.
None of these are new tips – just thought I’d share what I like to do! What’s on your list?
