{App Review} First Blubs + Giveaway

UPDATE 7/19/2017: I do not recommend this app any longer.  If you purchased this app, do NOT update it.  The developers of this app have moved to a different app called Speech Blubs, which is now a subscription based app. If you update the First Blubs app, this is what it changes over to and it will charge you $9.99/month.

My original review of First Blubs is below:

Today I’m reviewing an app called First Blubs. Stay tuned for a giveaway opportunity at the end of this post. It is available for both iPhone and iPad. The concept is simple. There are several different animals, as you can see below:

Once you select an animal, you see a child making the animal sound a few different times.

Then you can flip the camera and have the child practice into the camera (it’s black because I didn’t want to identify the child).

There are also props that turn you into the animal that you’re practicing, which is engaging and fun!

I tried this app with one of my younger students, as most of them were not appropriate for this one. I also tried it with my daughter who is 11 months old. Both enjoyed it, even if my daughter is a little young to actually imitate  the sounds. She loved looking at the kids making the noises!

What I Liked: The app has a simple concept and the animal noises are early developing sounds. The camera feature was a great motivator.

What I Would Love to See: I really wouldn’t change anything about the app because I love how simple and easy it is to use.

The First Blubs app is free and then there are in app purchases. Currently, all the animals are $6.99.

  1. As simple as this app may seeem it would be perfect for the ID mod-severe classroom that I work with. I have many non verbal students in that classroom who are working on simply imitating sounds! A great review! Thank you for the chance!

  2. Looks good! I can imagine how good it could be for my clients with Autism who are working on learning to imitate, Particularly those who still have difficulties with joint attention.
