Egg Shaped Emotions [Guest Post]

Today I’m bringing you a guest post from Kathryn, who blogs at Teaching Talking! She is also the mastermind behind the fabulous SLPs on TPT newsletter!

My name is Kathryn and I blog over at Teaching Talking. I’m delighted to be guest posting today for Teach Speech 365!

I love quality wooden toys and was excited to pick up this adorable set of “Eggspressions” from Amazon last year.

My son loves playing with them and they have given us plenty of opportunities to work on naming and talking about emotions. I have to say that the accompanying story book is basic but it is still cute and gives an easy way to introduce the characters.

The wooden eggs are really tactile and I recommend picking up a set for your Speech Room if you work with elementary students.

Just recently though, I found some plastic eggs in the dollar store and it gave me an idea for making a similar activity with my students. This is so fun, quick and easy I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before!

You will need;

  • -A plastic egg (1 per student)
  • -A Sharpie or other permenant marker
  • A small amount of putty

Have your students draw a face on the egg. Students can each choose a different emotion to draw or can choose to draw the way they are feeling right now.

Once the face is dry (it should only take a few seconds), open up the egg, stick a small amount of putty on the base and close the egg again. This makes the shell stand up by itself and makes a fun “wobble” character that your students will love!

There you go! Your own set of egg-spressions!

Let your students take them home or keep them in the speech room as prompts for future lessons.
