Everyday Speech Videos

Have you heard of Everyday Speech and their social skills videos? If not, you’re missing out! I’ve written a couple posts before on this company.

Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of the full video package; however, the opinions expressed are solely my own.

They provide a wealth of social skills modeling videos. I’ve used these videos with a few of my students who need help learning social skills. I love them because I can pause them and we can discuss what went wrong. Then we can watch again and see how the students fix the problem.

Click here and here for some examples of the videos.

They’ve added a bunch of videos since the last time I wrote about them. Some categories include: modeling, interactive games (my students love these), basic conversation skills, advanced conversation skills, nonverbal communication, and making friends.

The videos are not too long, so they really capture my students’ attention as well as keep them engaged. There are also free worksheets that are available for download. First the videos show students acting in a way that is not appropriate, followed by a discussion and then the students trying again to demonstrate a skill. I really like that you get to see the first scenario because it is a perfect discussion starter. Then we talk about what went wrong before watching the second half of the video.

You do have to subscribe to the website to access the videos, but then you can watch from any computer or tablet. You pay $7.99/month or $79.99/year, which I feel is well worth it if you have students who are working on social skills. Plus, they have plans to keep adding videos. I highly recommend them!

  1. I have used these videos all year and they are great. I like that I can pause the video and ask questions of my students. My only complaint is the repertoire of feeling words are too simple or repetitious. For example, they use ‘frustrated’ for many of the videos. I get around this by pausing the video and talking about a variety of words.
