As we near the end of the school year, it’s all about getting to the finish line. Getting through state testing, packing up, final progress reports, those last evaluations…and the billion schedule changes that occur in a school as a result of the end of the year.

Here are my tips for finishing strong!

1. Take a minute to appreciate how your students have grown: I swear, in the last month, I’ve said “you look taller” to probably my entire caseload. The kids hit this point in the year and they just look older. It’s crazy! We have the unique position to see the same kids year after year (sometimes).

2. Get outside! I wish I could take my students outside for therapy – I’ve actually not even asked if this is a possibility (I should). Even just helping at dismissal and getting some sunshine is really nice.

3. Do something fun in therapy: I promise, you’ll find a way to work language/artic/social skills/fluency/voice into it.

4. Tell a colleague thank you: It’s nice to hear it and it’s nice to say it. I’m sure there’s been times this year when a colleague helped you out in some way or another, so say thank you!!

We can do it! Happy (almost) summer!
