Online CEU Options

If you’re a practicing SLP, you need CEUs (continuing education units) in order to renew your state and ASHA license. How can we get them and not have to pay a lot of money to do so? Much to my dismay, I’m often not able to get to ASHA and my state conventions, so it’s up to me to find other ways to obtain the hours that I need to maintain my license.
I turned to online options. I’ve now tried two different websites, www.speechpathology.com and www.speechtherapypd.com. I’m not affiliated with either, but I’m going to give you my honest opinions on both.
I tried Speech Pathology first. Membership is $99/year and most of the courses are an hour in length. I liked it, but decided to try Speech Therapy PD this past year, which has longer courses and the basic membership is $89/year. Presenters are names you’ll likely recognize like Pam Marshalla, Lorraine Maida, and Lucas Steuber.
Speech Pathology:
Pros: many more 1 hour courses, live and recorded video webinars, text courses available, wide variety of topics
Cons: Slightly more expensive
Speech Therapy PD:
Pros: slightly less expensive, longer courses, live and recorded video webinars, ability to earn graduate level credit, variety of topics
Cons: longer courses
As you can see, I put “longer courses” in both the pro and con list for Speech Therapy PD. The only reason I did this is because free time is not something I have a lot of with a full time job, a toddler, and a side hustle (blogging/TPT). I’ve decided to go back to Speech Pathology because it’s easier for me to listen to a one hour course vs. a longer one at this stage of my life. Perhaps in the future, I will switch back but for the season of life I’m currently in I need CEU options that are quicker! If you’re interested in joining Speech Pathology, here’s my referral link!
I highly recommend online CEU websites in general because you can do them whenever and wherever you want. If I’m sitting there writing progress reports or planning, it’s easy to start up a webinar and listen to it.
Are you a member of either of the above websites? What do you like about them?
