S-Blend Trick

Hi friends! I’ve been using the arm trick for awhile with my s-blend kids. I’m sure you do as well! All you need is an arm. Start at one side with a strong /s/…

…and drag your finger up to say the rest of the word. I have my students do this on my arm and their arm or I do it on their arm. It’s a great visual and reminder to add the /s/!!What’s your favorite trick for those pesky s-blends?

  1. When I worked with younger kids I would start the s at the top of my arm, and make the long sound, as I moved my hand down my arm, when I reached my wrist I would tap it and say the rest of the word. It works great for kids who are substituting with stops.
