Social Skills Tip: Questions

Today I’m sharing a quick social skills tip that I’ve been using with some of my students who are struggling to ask questions of their peers. These students are great at answering questions and can take 3+ turns this way. But they need cues to ask questions. Sound familiar?

This is how I’m combatting that. Before we begin a conversation, I tell my students to hold up two fingers. When they have asked a question, they can put down a finger. The goal right now is to ask at least two questions and once they’ve done that, we can add more fingers. It’s providing the visual (and kind of tactile I guess) cue that they need and I don’t have to keep verbally prompting them!
