I’m bringing you another “toys & games” post! If you missed previous ones, check out the post for cause and effect and sequencing! This post features toys and games you can use to target spatial concepts.

1. Lakeshore Positional Concepts Box: This one looks awesome and it’s been on my wish list for awhile!

2. Stacking/Nesting Boxes: This ones picture are from Melissa and Doug, but there are several different ones out there. You can target “on, on top, top, bottom” and turn them over to target “in.”

 3. Dollhouses: Not just for girls! You can find tons of awesome play houses and with them, you can target tons of spatial concepts, like “in, on, under, in front, between, behind, near.” The list goes on and on. Plus, you’re working on play skills and overall language.

4. Play tent/tunnel: I don’t have enough space where I currently am for this type of thing, but I used these several times in other settings. Kids often learn spatial concepts better when they can perform them, so you can use various objects and put them “in, on, under, etc.”

5. Make your own preposition kit: I have a plastic bin that I throw random things in. Boxes, cups, bowls, little items. I find that it’s easier to teach prepositions with real objects.

  1. I also have the Lakeshore positional concept box and it is well worth the money! My kiddos are always excited when it comes out. You may want to visit their store/website – I recently got a coupon in the mail!
