Transition to Summer [FREEBIE]

I’ve officially been on summer break for about a week and a half now. I always want it to hurry up and get here, and then I always have a little bit of a hard time making the transition from being super structured to…not. Don’t get me wrong, I love not having to set an alarm and having a leisurely morning instead of the go, go, go of the school year. But as a type A personality and as someone who craves routine/structure, it can be difficult to make the transition.

I also have the pleasure of trying to keep up with a very busy two year old. I find that balancing that and trying to actually relax myself is somewhat difficult as well! I obviously love my daughter, but I’m really not great at the stay at home mom thing (<— yes, I admitted it). We are in the throes of the two year old “I’m going to test every boundary” stage, so some days are just HARD. And that’s ok.

In case you also have difficulty making the transition, I came up with a plan for myself. It’s not something that’s set in stone, but at the beginning of the week, I’m writing down the things I want to accomplish before the week is out. For me, this includes family, TPT, blog, and personal goals. I made a simple sheet to fill out. SLPs love a good list, right? If you’re interested in this sheet, you can download a copy here. I added a blank copy, so you can customize it to your needs.

Beyond that, I try to keep some sort of routine for myself and my daughter. I usually get up, workout, shower, and we will typically go somewhere in the morning. I do like to just hang around the house, but I’m not the type that can do that for several days in a row. I have to work around nap time and bedtime, which remain the same as during the school year.

Since I’ve been filling these sheets out, it has kept me accountable. Now I obviously have not accomplished everything that I’d like to, but I just carry things over to the next week. I like having things written down and being able to check them off. It’s been a great way to keep myself motivated.
