Virginia Speech Language Screenings (Artic and Language)

I work in Virginia, which is one of the few states who has not adopted the Common Core State Standards. We have Standards of Learning, which are similar in some ways. I have been using CCSS screenings on TpT or creating my own, but I really wanted something uniform to use that were aligned to my state standards. This packet was born:

I work in an elementary school with K-6th grades. I also work with preschool, but decided not to include that for these screenings. There is an articulation portion and language portion for all grades.

The articulation portion is color coded based on the Iowa Nebraska norms, which is what my state uses to determine eligibility for articulation students. Simply administer the sounds that correspond to your student’s age.

There are 2 page language screening forms for each grade. You can comment on articulation, voice and fluency. I used a general 80% passing rate, but it is up to you to use your clinical judgement to decide if a student should go forward with more formal evaluations. To get a better idea of what they look like, see below:

  1. i could use an informal artic screener with my population, deaf and hard of hearing. there are no normed tests so this would work great

  2. I’m a Virginia SLP as well and know the pain and struggle of combining screeners or just adapting existing ones. These would be excellent to get a true picture of where the kiddos are at!

  3. This would be a wonderful screener to refer teachers to when they are unsure if the child should be referred to speech/language.

  4. I would like to win this because I don’t have another resource like this. It looks like it would be very useful. Thanks for the giveaway.
