Why I Still Use Articulation Cards

I do have an iPad and frequently use it for articulation drill, but there’s something about using the cards that I still like. I’m going to tell you all the reasons I like to use them!

  1. My younger kids in particular like to have something to hold on to, find, etc. We can hide the cards in sensory bins, around the room, or they can just hold on to them.
  2. For older kids, I like to make two piles. If they say the word correctly, put it in one pile. If they say it incorrectly, put it in the other pile. The goal is to get all the cards into the “correct” pile.
  3. Go Fish: This is a no-brainer. Go Fish is a great way to work on articulation skills in conversation and I’ve never really met a kid who wouldn’t play this game.
  4. Feed the ___: I have a wipe container that I converted into a “creature” – my preschoolers absolutely LOVE feeding this thing.
  5. We frequently will make simple articulation cards during a session that the student can then take home for additional practice.

So articulation cards still have a place in my therapy room! I continue to use them all the time and hope you do as well!
