For 33 years I have worked for the Jefferson Lewis BOCES based in Watertown, New York. There are 18 component schools that are part of this BOCES. I have worked in 14 of these schools in some capacity. I have worked in Belleville Henderson, Carthage, Indian River, General Brown, Thousand Islands, LaFargeville, Watertown City, South Jefferson and Lyme in Jefferson County. I have worked in South Lewis, Copenhagen, Lowville and Beaver River in Lewis County.

In 33 years, from the children, I have learned patience. I have learned tolerance. I have learned perseverance. Each and every child that I have had the privilege of working with have taught me something, I have learned that there is potential in every human being to be the best they can be. I have smiled many smiles as I have watched children grow and become better communicators. I have always been amazed at how much children love and want to be loved. I truly love every child I have ever worked with. Of course there are some that have touched my heart more than others. If I said this were not true, I would be lying. Each and every year, I have had one or two that I would take home with me in a minute. I have kept things over the years to remind me of how much I have been loved. These things are kept in a safe place for me to take out now and then as I reminisce about times past.

In 33 years, from the adults, I have learned more than I could ever put down on paper. Being in a position that changed so often forced me to be tolerant of others and to work with all personalities. My personality being a reserved and quiet one did not always mix well with some that were more outspoken. I felt as though I was misunderstood because I was quiet and did not show much emotion. Some people thought of me as “stuck up”. I did not mean to convey this. However, despite all of this, I have made many friendships with colleagues that I hope to keep going for many years to come.

In 33 years I have learned that some things always change and some things never change. I have learned that some things take forever and some things take no time at all. I have learned that procrastination is not a good thing although I always performed better under pressure, I have learned that things need to be taken for what they are and sometimes moving on is best. I have learned that if in your heart you feel you are doing your best; do not let others tell you differently. I have learned that there is good in every person and we all need to look for the good even if it is difficult, Most of all, I have learned that life is too short to not give it your all. God has blessed me with a talent and I give him all the credit for everything I have accomplished.
